In many industrial applications, broadband sound and vibration transmission control is of primary importance. The feedback control approach allows to actively isolate vibration transmission. The conceptual basis for skyhook control will be developed and applied to lumped parameter systems to highlight the relative performance of this approach compared to passive damping. Feedback control can also be used to control transmission of broadband sound in distributed parameter systems, such as double panels. Numerical and experimental studies are carried out to demonstrate the capabilities of feedback control and the performance of the active control system. Results show that both in lumped and distributed parameter systems, convincing reductions of vibration or sound transmission can be expected if some criterion on the fondamental resonant frequency of the system is respected.
