Overflow gates may suffer from oscillations due to flow-instability induced excitations (IIE). The instability of the overflow water jet is caused by e.g. variations of the quantity and direction of the inflow, small disturbances at the gates top or changes of the air pressure in the surroundings and results in deviations from the ideal falling line. The overflow gate with an aeration channel is simplified as fixed structure with a built-in compliant wall segment.
