This seminar focuses on the use of stochastic modeling techniques for uncertainty quantification in smart structures applications with special attention to passive, active and active-passive vibration control using discrete spatial modal filters and active-passive piezoelectric networks, and piezoelectric energy harvesting. Some recent numerical and experimental results on the effect of uncertainties of sensor array spatial distribution and weighting coefficients on the modal filtering effectiveness are presented. As another topic, some recent results on the effect of uncertainties of bonding layer stiffness on the performance of piezoelectric sensors and actuators with application to passive and active shunted damping and energy harvesting are also presented.
